A personal project exploring ideas of isolation and exploration as a response to growing up in rural Ohio. On summer breaks from ages 10-12, I would pack a lunch and walk for hours through fields and forests pretending I was the main character from The Island of the Blue Dolphins, a Native American women unintentionally abandoned on an island off the coast of California, where she survived in complete isolation for 18 years until her rescue. Ripe Signals is was created using cut Murano paper affixed to a raw wood panel measuring 36 x 24".
